Abstract
The article focuses on the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs (SRL), a national public media initiative that empowers middle and high school students to produce video news stories on significant issues affecting their peers. Founded in 2009, SRL aims to engage young people in journalism by providing them with mentorship and resources to create content that reflects their experiences and perspectives. Through project-based learning, students develop essential skills such as critical thinking and communication while addressing community issues. The program also offers real-world experience and opportunities for certification and college credit, fostering a sense of agency and purpose among young journalists. [Extracted from the article]
