Abstract
The article discusses the founding and advocacy efforts of tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) to provide culturally based, place-based higher education for Native students. Topics include the establishment of the first TCUs and the American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC), the creation of the American Indian College Fund to support student success and ongoing advocacy to secure funding and protect programs like Pell Grants.
