Abstract
The Parque Deportivo José Martí in Havana, Cuba, is a modernist sports complex that was built in 1960 as a symbol of the Cuban revolution's ambition and social aspirations. Despite economic difficulties, the complex remains an important architectural accomplishment and a popular recreational facility. However, the park has suffered from neglect and deterioration over the years, with structures being damaged by the maritime climate and storms. Recent refurbishment efforts have brought hope for the preservation of the park's modernist architecture, although there are criticisms of the restoration techniques and materials used. The reopening of the park has been welcomed by the community, who have fond memories of its past and hope for its full restoration. [Extracted from the article]
