Abstract
Important criticisms of neoliberalism are woven throughout several chapters, and Creechan notes the consequences of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which other scholars have linked more explicitly to increased narco-violence in Mexico (e.g. [5]). Throughout the book, Creechan challenges popular perceptions about the Mexican drug trade as well as the official U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-led narrative about the nature of Mexican cartels. James creechan'sDrug Wars and Covert Netherworlds: The Transformation of Mexico's Narco Cartels offers an insightful historical overview of the transformation of Mexico's criminal syndicates and a nuanced portrait of the country's contemporary violence.
