Abstract
The article focuses on the events surrounding Thomas Webster, a former police officer and Marine, who assaulted a fellow officer during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Initially conflicted about attending the "Save America" rally, Webster became increasingly drawn to far-right ideologies and believed in the false claims of a stolen election. On January 6, he confronted Metropolitan Police Officer Noah Rathbun, leading to a violent altercation that resulted in Webster's conviction for assaulting a police officer. After serving two years of a ten-year sentence, Webster was pardoned by Donald Trump but continues to believe in the legitimacy of his actions and the narrative surrounding the events of that day. The article also highlights the contrasting experiences of law enforcement officers like Rathbun and Webster, illustrating the deep divisions in perspectives on the January 6 insurrection.
