Abstract

The article focuses on Theodore Kallman's book, *The Kingdom of God is at Hand*, which examines the Christian Commonwealth, a short-lived community in Georgia from 1896 to 1901 that embraced Christian socialism. The colony, founded by a diverse group of individuals disillusioned with capitalism and institutional churches, aimed to create a communal life based on shared possessions and social action. Despite initial successes, including agricultural endeavors and the publication of a periodical called *Social Gospel*, the community faced internal conflicts, legal challenges, and a typhoid epidemic, leading to its eventual decline. Kallman's work provides a detailed microhistory of this community, contributing to the understanding of Christian socialism in America. [Extracted from the article]
