Abstract

The essay examines the complex social organization on the island of Gökçeada in the 6th millennium BC. The excavations in Uğurlu on the island have revealed various building complexes and ritual areas from this time. Bone tools, jewelry, and rare objects such as Spondylus jewelry were found. The findings indicate a well-organized rural community, without clear signs of social differences or hierarchy. The excavations were supported by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and are based on a revised doctoral thesis. [Extracted from the article]
